FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
What's the difference between a bulb and a lamp?
It depends who you're talking to! Please look at the graphic above - the glass components comprising the curved reflector around the burner with the electronics in it, is known as the bulb (but sometimes referred to as a lamp). The bulb/lamp plus the cage/housing is called a lamp module; most manufacturers product is supplied as a "lamp module" for quickness and ease of installation. Unfortunately, most of us shorten lamp module to lamp so that adds to the confusion.
What bulbs do Diamond Lamps use?
All Diamond Lamps use genuine, original bulbs supplied directly from the same original manufacturer that supplied the projector manufacturer.
The largest bulb manufacturer for this sector is Philips, the others are Osram, Ushio, Phoenix, Iwasaki (Eye), Matsushita and Epsom.
Diamond Lamps have authorised supply of both Philips and Osram bulbs and are seeking supply of the other brands to fill the range. Currently, these other brands are not directly available to anyone other than the projector manufacturers so if you are offered product using one of these bulbs and it didn't come from the projector manufacturer, be very wary as it may be counterfeit.
How do I find out if there is a Diamond Lamp available for my projector?
Use the up- to-date list on the Product page of this website.
If the projector is not listed please go to the right hand side of the page where you can log your details to receive notification when new product becomes available. The range is continually expanding and we are expecting to be able to support over 1,000 projector models by the New Year.
What is a copy lamp?
A copy lamp uses a lamp/bulb where the recognised patents for projector lamp technology have been ignored and they could therefore be illegal. Accordingly, these copies are invariably much cheaper than the original manufacturers' products but will not have passed through the same stringent production processes or quality controls. A copy lamp will not deliver the same performance in terms of colour, brightness and lamplife as the original lamp supplied with the projector.
NOTE - a projector lamp is a highly technical product which must withstand great pressure and heat. If you buy a product using a genuine bulb which has been manufactured by the world's leading bulb manufacturers you can be assured that it has undergone strict quality and safety tests. Product that is produced with low price as the priority will not offer such assurance.
What's a branded copy lamp?
It is merely a copy lamp sold under a brand name.
By their own admission, they cannot match original lamp performance.
What's the warranty on Diamond Lamps product?
All Diamond Lamps come with the original manufacturers' warranty terms for 4 months.
Will my Diamond Lamp last as long as the original?
Because Diamond Lamps use the same bulb as originally supplied with the projector the performance will be the same in terms of lamplife and colour and brightness. But to get the best out of it you must follow the instructions as set out in the projector User Guide.
What about the projector warranty?
In many cases the projector warranty will have expired. However, if it were current, Diamond Lamps could invalidate it. Philips, working at factory level and Diamond Lamps at a local level are seeking individual brand clarification as, given that the bulb is identical to the original bulb, it shouldn't affect the projector in any adverse way and therefore the warranty should stand.
